Haunting Photos of Abandoned Amusement Park in Germany

Before the Berlin wall fell, the communist party in East Berlin constructed an amusement park for its citizens to enjoy. They designed rides that were meant to be enjoyed by children and families. But some of those rides turned out to be more creepy than fun, and after East and West Germany were unified, the park stayed open for a couple of decades, but eventually closed. It now lies abandoned, and is a playground for photographers, as these haunting shots from Chris Grabert show.

This amusement park was designed by the Communist Party in East Berlin, in 1969.

After the fall of the Berlin wall, it was taken over by Norbert Witte in 1991.

As the new owner, Norbert Witte started smuggling cocaine in shipments containing pieces of ride equipment.

He was eventually caught, and the park was closed down in 2002.

Now the park sits abandoned and rusting in Berlin.

The park was recently featured in the climax of the movie “Hanna”.

The land is currently for sale, and was almost bought by a concert promoter…

… but the sale fell through due to a requirement in the contract that the land remain an amusement park until 2061.

The park remains abandoned to this day.

As of early March, 2014, this abandoned amusement park is actually for sale on eBay! For the right price (about $2,240,000), you could own a piece of history, nightmarish and haunting as it may be.
