Welcome to the Most Alien-Looking Place on Earth: Socotra Island, Yemen

Want to feel like you’re visiting another planet? You might not need to invest in that insteller-light-speed ship just yet, because for a lot less money you can get the same sensation much closer to home. Just visit Socotra Island, off the coast of Yemen. It’s been called the most Alien-looking place on Earth, and the proof is in the pictures. It’s truly unlike any place on Earth. (None of these photos have been altered in any way!)

Socotra is one of the most isolated land-masses on Earth that was once part of a continent. (In other words, it wasn’t formed by a volcano.) It has been disconnected from the main land for 6 million years, which has given evolution plenty of time to chart its own course without any influence from most common species found on continental land masses. It’s the closest thing you’ll get to a real look at how life might evolve on an Alien world similar to our own.
